Penang and Taiping 2

Day 3: Taiping Zoo and Penang

The day started with Dim Shum with Michelle and her family. Yup with all her extended family which was like so funny. It took us 5 tables so that all of us could sit into it. LoL...the uncle has so much difficulty finding all the places for us to sit. Once we were done with the breakfast, we took a tour to the Taiping Zoo. Although it was smaller than KL zoo, it was nicer to walk as we only walk around the whole zoo. I didn't take the camera with me as Judd was taking pictures on my behalf. LoL....his camera taking skills wasn't really bad at all. This were some of the pictures that he had taken.

Once we finished walking on the Taiping Zoo, we took our leave and went straight to Penang with Jason driving me there. It was nice to have pPenang & Taiping 193eople to drive me around. As usual, the Penang bridge was horrible as there was a terrible jam and by the time we reached the hotel, it was already 5 pm. We rest for a while before we walked out for a walk at Komtar. In Kompar, we only  realized that we wPenang & Taiping 197ere living quite close to Mackenister Road we decided to have dinner there. We ordered as usual a lot of food and this time we ordered Lobak, Mee Rebus, Charcoal Fried Kwai Tiew and Ikan Panggang which was superb. All the food was nice to eat. After eating, we head back to the hotel and took a drive to USM to look  for some pan cake at Super Tanker Food Court but sadly it was closed. We headed back and slept for the night.

Day 4: Penang

We woke up around 8 am and went down for the hotel to have breakfast which quite disappointed  me as it was quite bad. After breakfast, we drove out to buy some Dragon Biscuit but it was closed. So we back to the hotel and went out to have a walk in Komtar again and that was when I bought a lot of things including some presents.Penang & Taiping 222 By the time we finished shopping, we went to eat some nice Asam Laksa, Kiew Teow Goreng again and the nice Cendol near to the Octopus Overhead Bridge (Lee 2008). Once we were done with the food, we drove out to buy our tickets to go up Penang Hill which the attendant told us that we have to wait till 6 pm. We bought the ticket aPenang & Taiping 260nd went to Kek Lok Si for assam laksa and a quick walk. Once it was 5 pm, we went back to Penang Hill and waited impatiently to go up the hill.

At 6 pm, we went up the hill and changed train in between. I hated the ride as it was slow and I couldn't really stand the slowness. It was worse than turtle walking.  Once up the hill, it was cold like nobody business and again I didn't really enjoy it much other than the nice scenery. It even started raining. So, I quickly bought some 'Hands up' and 'Feet down' souvenirs and headed down the hill. While we were heading down, another drama took over the train as some Malay dude pushed an old lady and the Chinese family made a fuss out of it which caused us 30 minutes of late. Man...by the time we reached down, I was so bored and tired and angry. We drove to Super Tanker for dinner but both of us were not in a mood to even enjoy the food. We packed some Nasi Kandar along the way and drove home in silence. With my irritating mode taking over, I sang high and out of tune the entire journey and by the time we reached Kampar, it was already late. Haiz!Penang & Taiping 299

Perak and Penang 1

Finally an update for the year 2009. Went for a long trip again last month while waiting for my Malacca trip for this month. Think going to China next month really works me to have fun through out. Maybe it is also because I want to spend time with my kids as they are very special to me this year. Malacca trip, here I come.

Anyhow, last month was filled with fun too as the Perak and Penang trip was spectacular. Got to meet up with my Uni friends and also....most important, got to eat. I love to eat and trying to eat as much as possible before I go over. This was the fun part of the trip.

Day 1: Kampar

The journey started off on the 27th of December where Jason and I headed down to Perak early because I thPenang & Taiping 006ought of doing my second root canal treatment but ended up not able to as the dentist was full. Before we head back to Kampar, we made a stop at Bidor to bring him to eat my favorite 'Sang Har Mee' and surprised that the aunty actually introduced us to 'Fish Slice Wat Tan Ho'. I was so happy that I finally touched the fish as it was delicious.  I usually don't eat fish at all.

Once we had our meal, we went back to Kampar and rest for a while before we eat again. This time to my favorite Assam Laksa with Pork Ribs. It was something that can only be found in Kampar as people don't serve Laksa with pork ribs. Although the duration between both meals were only 2 hours apart. I was contented to have. After the meal, we went to Tesco to do some shopping before Penang & Taiping 015we went back to head down to Batu Gajah to pick up Linda to Ipoh. Head down to Wooley to have the Curry Mee and this time I had it without the cockles and it was nice. Then we went over to Fantasy to have some ice cream. Yeah...it was an ordinary ice cream but it came with half a honey dew. Wahaha...its the old type of ice cream serving man. Check it out.

After the ice cream, I sent Linda back before we headed back to Kampar to sleep.

Day 2: Taiping

After the trip that I had done with Sailo and they all, I knew exactly how long would it take to go to Taiping and yet I was late for Julz wedding as we woke up late that morning. Had some porridge before we headed out to Taiping. Took us quite some time but we were finally able to reach there at around 12 pm but Julz church wedding had started than. And so I decidedPenang & Taiping 022 to spend some time driving around Taiping to look for the place where we can eat. We found an eatery place near to the taxi stand and it was what we have been looking for all these while. We went there to have a look around and we then decided to feast on the food there. I ordered a fried keau tiew but it wasn't really superb. It was different from the rest as it was slightly more wet. Jason ordered the prawn noodle which wasn't really something to shout about too. Once we had our lunch, we went out to walk around the town before we went to The Store while waiting for Michele and Cat to call back.

After walking for some time, they called and we were ushered to the some houses. It was like a new concept or anything as it was obvious that we were placed in a room in one of the houses and the houses wrote something about....houses for rent...good for weddings and obviously, Julz came out from there. Theirs were the first house while mine was the 3rd house. There weren't any fence there but then...the concept looks cool. Anyhow, Jason took his nap while I went to see Theresa in her room to have a chat before we went out for the wedding dinner.

There was nothing much to do at the wedding and since it was raining heavily (Taiping is titled Land of the Wet), the dinner started later than half and hour and my friend came even later than that. The first few course of meal were so-so but the rest was superb but a bit sPenang & Taiping 024low. We whacked almost everything on the table but there was one thing that seriously annoyed me. The wedding was a karaoke wedding and therefore you have people  singing Mandarin songs which were out of tune all the time. Getting bored, my friend's husband took over and sang some English songs. XD It was nice to see her singing as she was a coach who coaches choir in her church. The wedding ended at around 10.30 pm and since Jason didn't go to the wedding dinner with Penang & Taiping 030me, I had to take him out for dinner and we went to a nice makan place near to Tasik Taiping. I ordered some nice chicken wings which took me 30 minutes before I could have a taste of it. The aunty was extremely slow but it was superb. It Penang & Taiping 035was one of the best chicken wings that I ever tasted. Once I bought the chicken wings, I went back home and had a  mini gathering with my sisters and we had a fun time chatting. Miss the good old university days where we used to hang out together. At around 2 am, I went back to my room and had a close eye for tomorrow.
